I Gained More Than 11 Pounds Over The Holidays
As of January 8, I’ve lost most of it back…
When my holiday break started on December 23, 2021, I had no idea that I was about to gain 11.4 pounds in 18 days. But that’s exactly what happened.
Don’t get me wrong, I expected to gain weight.
The way I look at it, all things should be held in moderation, especially moderation. Christmas and New Year’s are occasions for throwing moderation out the window. They are occasions that call for feasting.
So I expected to gain weight, I just thought it would be closer to five or six pounds, just like last year.
So how did I gain twice as much weight as I expected? And why is it shedding off more rapidly than it came on?
Quantity, Quality, and Timing
As Dr. Peter Attia points out, there are always three levers you can pull with respect to nutrition:
- Quantity (Calories)
- Quality (e.g. whole foods vs ultra processed)
- Timing (e.g. intermittent fasting, time-restricted eating)
Peter recommends that you always pull one lever, sometimes pull two, and occasionally pull all three.
