I tend to be a little more reserved with this kind of take. The sword cuts both ways when it comes to profit. The sleazy self-help guru can profit off the greed of his audience just as easily as someone can profit off of hopelessness. I tend to think Jessica's motivations are good.
I do agree though: There is danger in ideas that make room for people to abandon personal responsibility. And everyone (myself included) faces constant temptation to abandon responsibility.
And you're right, I do think the observations and the data support the worldview that points to improving yourself.
