I’m team passive investing as well. For me another large consideration is fees. If you’re involved in active trading, you’re either devoting an extraordinary amount of time, or you’re likely paying a higher expense ratio.
I can’t control returns (much as I’d like to believe I can), but I can control fees. The difference in fees between passive index funds and active mutual funds seems small, but it compounds over time. Results aren’t guaranteed with active investing (and like you point out, you aren’t likely to beat the market, especially over the long term), but fees are.
