Such a tough issue. Thank you for tackling it. I think that to some extent the answer to whether we can separate an artist from their work is always going to be both yes and no. To some extent we all do it most of the time, consuming artwork without the faintest notion of where it comes from. That said, it would be difficult to watch the Cosby Show without thinking about what we have learned about Bill Cosby since then. I think it’s probably good for different people to draw different lines here. One person might say they still enjoy the show, and while they hate having to think about what he did, they actually welcome the reminder that we’re all human and need to remain vigilant to not let the rottenness inside us fester into horrendous actions. Another person might say that they feel uncomfortable even watching the show, they feel violated or unsafe. I think both are valid perspectives.
