The chapter in Dumbledore's study is actually next for me. I'll probably be reading it later today. It's a super powerful scene. I think it's also a great example of how JK Rowling does the little things better than most authors. Because there's nothing crazy about the hero of your story being the chosen one. That's pretty standard fantasy stuff. But the way that it's revealed really hits hard. It's such a devestating chapter.
I totally agree with you on the Christmas holiday at Grimauld Place. There's e certain sweetness to the fact that it is Sirius who is so elated to have company that he lifts everyone else's mood.
I also think that's an interesting point about our rankings changing as we get older. I'm really curious to see how the epilogue of the 7th book hits me next time I read it. My oldest son has almost reached the age I was when I started reading Harry Potter. I wonder if Harry comforting his son will hit different as I have to comfort my son with things that I went through.
I appreciate the subscription! Thank you so much. I would say it might be a good idea to subscribe to my publication The Pen and the Sword (https://medium.com/the-pen-and-the-sword) as well. I haven't published a ton on there, but I have a post releasing this week about why I think the second Harry Potter book is the most underrated. It's a good way to be more targeted, because I have a ton of different stuff that I write about. For instance, my last post on my personal profile was randomly about learning foreign languages (https://thematthewkent.medium.com/what-if-weve-been-teaching-languages-wrong-6c2592fe755a) but hey, maybe you're into that stuff too.
One question: Have you listened to the books as audiobooks? This is my first time. But it's because I'm usuing the books to help learn Spanish. So when I say I'm reading the fifth book right now, really what I mean is that I'm reading Harry Potter y La Orden Del Fenix for the first time. I read the physical book as I'm listening to the audio. SO it's definitely different, but I can't tell how much of the difference can be chalked up to Spanish and how much can be attributed to the audio
