Yes, I think the logistics of change are daunting. Part of the problem with starting a mass movement is there are going to be too many differing viewpoints on what change should look like to effectively unite. I think the only way that it can happen is to find a single point of change to rally around. It may sound radical, but here would be the one that I propose: abolish the department of education. Decisions around education should be made as close as possible to the students, parents, and teachers that are actually doing the work of educating the next generation. Once centralized control is abolished, there is more freedom for people to try out the systems that they think are best. To some extent, this obviously already happens where teachers try new things and other teachers emulate best practices, it just happens in a narrow context that’s constrained by the limitations of the school system.
